“I didn’t know how badly I wanted to be a mom until I met my daughter,” The Retaility’s founder Lindzi Scharf said, during our Mother’s Day brunch with Gwyneth Paltrow’s latest beauty line, good.clean.goop. “This is a club I didn't know that I wanted to join so badly. These events [are] an extension of the site. But if I'm being honest it's [also] that I wanted to be in a room with women that I very much admire.”

Held at "Optimism Doctor" Deepika Chopra's Los Angeles home, the intimate alfresco brunch — which attracted Rumer Willis, Abigail Spencer, Constance Zimmer, and Lindsay Price — was a celebration of all forms of motherhood while providing guests an introduction to goop’s newest line of innovative and accessible beauty, skincare, and wellness products.

“The fact that [Goop] wanted to support the type of storytelling that we’re doing at The Retaility means the world,” Scharf told the group. “The art of long-form features is a dying art form, and it’s an art form I very much believe in. I can tell you, based on looking at data, there’s an audience for it.”

Additional guests included Amanda Kloots, comedian and new mom Esther Povitsky, Breeda Wool, director Kay Cannon, “Fair Game” author Eve Rodsky, Emma Stone and Alanis Morissette’s make-up artist Rachel Goodwin, producer Hilary Shor, Cleobella designer Angela O'Brien, The Happy Place co-founder Kate Gordon, Goop’s Elle Malet, and Alliance of Moms co-founder Kelly McKee Zajfen.

“I'm genuinely a fan of their exfoliator,” Scharf said. “So, this worked out well.” She later added, “good.clean.goop’s approach is in line with The Retaility's ethos. It's as beautifully crafted as it is accessible. To have the goop team's support and seal of approval means the world. I remember pinching myself when I attended a G.Label holiday party at Gwyneth's home a few years ago. Now, I'm pinching myself that we're collaborating.”

“Years ago, when my team and I started our own goop Beauty line, we committed ourselves to creating products that were three things simultaneously: clean, high-performance, and luxurious,” Paltrow said in a statement. (She was unable to attend the brunch as she prepped for a goop event with Oprah, Rob Lowe, and friends at her Montecito home the following night.) “Today, goop Beauty is defined by best-in-class, clinically proven ingredients used at active levels, and the way that everything feels exquisite. We’ve learned a lot along the way as we’ve built goop Beauty, and now we’re thrilled to be able to launch a new brand—good.clean.goop—that meets our strict clean standards at an accessible price point. good.clean.goop takes an innovative approach to classic skin care, leaning into clean hero ingredients that really work. I’m so excited for more people who are curious about clean beauty—or who simply appreciate a quality cream or a hardworking cleanser—to be able to try our new line of essentials.”

The afternoon affair featured a menu of locally-sourced Acme smoked salmon, home-made granola, Caesar salads, and tasty pastries from Brentwood’s Farmshop.

“I also want to shout out Miss Abigail Spencer,” Scharf told the women.

“Ooh!” Spencer said, visibly surprised. “What’d I do?”

Spencer’s company County Line Florals created the event’s stunning flower arrangements. Guests left with good.clean.goop gift bags, The Retaility’s limited-edition journals, and Dr. Chopra’s science-based optimism card deck “Things Are Looking Up.”

It was also a fashionable afternoon. Spencer wore a Loewe top, A Piece Apart jeans, an Anine Bing denim jacket, Veronica Beard shoes, and New Bottega bag. Scharf opted for a suit by Veronica Beard with Larroude shoes. Meanwhile, Zimmer rocked Clare V’s Every Mother Counts t-shirt, which read, “Maman Sait Mieux,” which — fitting — translates to: “Mom Knows Best.”
